our studios

Our fantastic studios hold a prime location in SW12. Studio 1, our private and duet room, runs directly parrallel with Platorm One of Wandsworth Common train station in one of the old station house buildings.  Our crisp white walls, large windows, high ceilings, original wooden floors and exposed brick wall create a bright open, New York Loft style studio space that you’ll love to spend time in and be proud to call your training space.

Our newest space, Studio 2, is a beautiful light filled group reformer room right opposite studio 1.  Following the pandemic, this beautiful studio has been created with social distancing and safety at its forefront.  Reformers are well spaced and there is separate equipment for each station, so nothing is ever shared.

With ample dedicated free parking outside studio 2, and easily accessible transport links, reaching our studios couldn't be more safe and simple.  It goes without saying all equipment is wiped and sanitised between sessions and clients.

What is Pilates?

Pi.la.tes Definition.

piˈlätÄ“z/ (prounciation).a system of exercises using special apparatus, designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, and enhance mental awareness(noun).

Originally created by a German man named Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920s, Pilates is a series of exercises designed to target the deep muscles of the abdomen and spine to strengthen the body from the inside out.  It focuses on breath and proper alignment with the goal of achieving a balance of strength and flexibility.  This creates better balance in the body which translates to your movement through all of life’s activities, improving your posture and muscle tone.

WHY CHOOSE EQUIPMENT PILATES?

The equipment we use in Pilates utilizes pulleys and springs to assist or resist movement using the participants own body weight.  It provides extra resistance so that strength and stamina are built quicker than with mat work alone. The assistance the springs provide can also help clients suffering with injury to rediscover their range of movement and mobility, as the springs can take some of the body's weight. Clients also feel that they can get more feedback from the machines and it enables them to make and understand a better connection with their body. Specific areas can also be targeted where necessary.

What is Pilates?

our ethos

With a strong focus on alignment and movement, we recognise that you are unique and so too is your Pilates session.  Your instructor will ask you questions each time you visit and the session is led by what you communicate, both verbally and through your physicality.  A programme is then tailor made to ensure your goals are met.  Even in group classes, our instructors will provide hands on corrections (if you are comfortable with that) and use verbal cues to ensure you are in the correct position to get the most out of your session. Our Instructors are trained to a very high standard and continually complete training and courses to further update their knowledge base.

Our aim is to provide world class pilates instruction and education to our clients, in an exclusive environment whereby each individual gets hands on attention to create a balanced functional body.  As Joseph Pilates stated “Controlology (Pilates) develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.” The Loft Pilates Studio encompasses this statement, aiming to balance the mind and body to enable the client to complete whatever their passion is, be it work, sports, Pilates, or everyday life, with optimal physical and mental conditioning.

studio etiquette

Our fantastic studio spaces are immaculate and we would like to keep it that way, therefore we ask that you take your shoes off before entering the studio rooms please.  There is a shoe rack provided to take care of your shoes.

New clients often ask what should I wear and the answer is simple, anything you are comfortable in.  It is easier for the instructor to see your body move in tighter fitting clothes, however we want you to feel at ease so any fitness clothes that you are happy in will be great. One thing we do ask is that you wear a pair of clean socks or anti slip pilates socks.  This is for hygiene reasons.  Non slip socks are available to purchase from us at the studio at £12 a pair.
